• have Sections for activities popular in the region
• have Sections for levels of attainment from beginners to advanced
• be encouraging in spirit, within a supportive environment
• be designed largely by local teachers and professionals
• be inexpensive for participants and audiences
• be reviewed and adjusted to ensure it continues to serve the best interests of the region.

All individual competitors will receive a Certificate of Performance and written comments from the Adjudicator. 

All adjudicators are artists of high personal achievement and extensive teaching experience, sympathetic to the purpose of the Balaklava Eisteddfod.

CONTEMPORARY VOCAL SECTION (Amplified Voice)

MUSIC

Own choice of 1 piece
A legible copy of the lyrics is to be provided for the adjudicator

TIME LIMIT
6 minutes - Provision will be made for 1 minute sound check
  • This is the only voice section that uses microphones.
  • Original backing CDs must be used. Ensure that any vocal backings are not more prominent than the performer.
  • Be aware of appropriate lyrics and dress. Note rule 19(c) about presentation and content.

 

INSTRUMENTAL SECTION (other than piano)

• Solo (inst) - Novice division (1st instrument only, learning 18 months or less)
• Solo (inst) - Divisons according to age
• Duet & Trio (i2-3)
* Please note time limits for different age divisions

MUSIC
Own choice of piece(s), contrasting pieces if more than 1

Senior & Open ~ 8 minutes

Any song(s) from film or stage. Props/costumes may be used
TIME LIMIT
5 minutes PLUS 2 minutes set up time
  • Costume and simple props may be used in Musical Theatre, but not in other singing sections.
  • While harmony is encouraged in Musical Theatre Ensemble, it does not have to be 50% as it is often difficult to find pieces that have 50% or more harmony. (See amended Rule 13 a) ii)

PIANO SECTION

• Solo (p)
• Duet (pd) - Student-Student combination
• Duet (pd) - student-Teacher combination
* Please note time limits for different age divisions

  • Classical style includes pieces such as arias, oratorio or opera, art songs and ballads in any language - all to be presented in classical style of singing.
  • Popular can include rock, ballads, jazz, blues, R&B to be presented in popular style.
  • NO microphones are used in this Section

SUNDAY EVENT

FINALE CONCERT

Balaklava Town Hall, 2.30pm

• Adjudication of the Adelaide Plains Male Voice Choir VOCAL SCHOLARSHIP will be a feature of the 2010 Finale Concert.
• Championship Winners from the various Sections of competition will be invited to perform in this concert. Championship trophies will be presented at this time.
• The combined Mid North Primary Schools Festival of Music Choirs will perform.

ADELAIDE PLAINS MALE VOICE CHOIR INC.
VOCAL SCHOLARSHIP 2010

* PLEASE NOTE ELIGIBLE AGE *

The Adelaide Plains Male Voice Choir Inc. Vocal Scholarship is open to any person between the ages of 13 years and 18 years on July 1, 2010, entering in the Classical Solo Division of the Vocal Section of the Balaklava Eisteddfod. The three finalists competing during the Finale Concert will be selected by the Adjudicator on Saturday, 31st July 2010, from the entrants have applied for the scholarship.

VOCAL SCHOLARSHIP (Non Amplified) (Music Notes )

Entry Fee $5.00, Late Fee - ADD $5.00

FINALISTS SELECTED WILL BE REQUIRED TO PERFORM FOR ADJUDICATION AT THE SUNDAY FINALE CONCERT.

Performance will include the Vocal Classical Solo that was performed in the Saturday Vocal Section. Finalists are also required to perform a Musical Theatre Solo. (See criteria for Musical Theatre music under Saturday Sections)

COMMUNICATION

After the closing date (7th MAY 2010) the Society will design the Eisteddfod programme to match the entries. Any late entries will be accepted at the discretion of BES, according to numbers already entered in those divisions. * Numbers will be capped at approximately 12 entries in each division *

The official programme and detailed instructions will be sent to all entrants by the end of June.
